For the second overnight weekend trip we wanted to explore new anchorages. Our short list included Manzanita Bay, Appletree Cove (Kingston), Bywater Bay and Port Gamble. We left Shilshole around noon and since a fairly strong south wind was blowing we raised the spinnaker and sailed north…reaching Admiralty Inlet late afternoon.
Since a cold front was predicted to move in overnight we opted for the safer anchorage of Port Gamble over Bywater Bay.
Reached Pt. Gamble by around 6pm and with suddenly a strong northerly wind blowing decided to tuck in behind the new Marina construction site near the church spire.
Dropped the crab trap and pulled it up a little later with 4 big red rock crabs in it.
During the night the wind shifted South and blew at around 20 kts but the anchor was dug in solid in the muddy bottom.
On the way back it looked like a slog at first, motoring against 2 kts of current in Admiralty Inlet but the wind started picking up from the North and you can see where we raised the spinnaker on the plot below 🙂 (created with GPSVisualizer)
